This topic begins by introducing antibodies as part of the body’s defense mechanism against infection. After exploring this, we will move on to look at the role antibodies play in the process of vaccination, a method by which we are able to protect ourselves against dangerous diseases which our bodies may not have encountered before. Finally, we will look at some interesting pathogens for which vaccines are difficult to make: influenza virus (flu) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV-1).
